Qazi Hussain Ahmed passes away
Former chief of Jamaat-i-Islami and veteran politician Qazi Hussain Ahmed passed away in Islamabad early on Sunday. He was of 74.
His health deteriorated three days ago after which he had been shifted from Peshawar to Islamabad. Last night he suffered a heart attack and he was rushed to a hospital in F-10 area of federal capital where he breathed last at 1:40 am.
His funeral prayers will be offered on Sunday at 3 pm at Jinnah Park in Peshawar.
Qazi Hussain Ahmed last November narrowly escaped a bomb attack when a woman bomber blew herself up near his convey in northwest Mohmand Agency.
He severed as the third Ameer of Jamaat-i-Islami from 1987 to 2009 and was succeeded by Syed Munawar Hasan. He also served as the last head of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, a coalition of religious and theocratic parties.
Qazi Hussain left behind a widow, two sons and two daughters who all are Jamaat-e- Islami activists.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Muslim League-N president Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan and head of Tehreek Minhaj ul Quran Tahir-ul-Qadri have expressed their grief and sorrow over his death.
