Mighty protease crushed helpless Zimbabwe
Mighty protease crushed helpless Zimbabwe by ten wickets. Batting first, Zimbabweans never looked impressive. South African won the toss and elected to field first. From start of the proceedings match was clearly unidirectional. Dale Steyn swung with the new ball was simply unplayable for Zimbabwe. Openers Hamilton Masakadza and Vusi Sibanda responded to him very nervously. Steyn scared them with swinging fast deliveries.
In 1st five overs they could gather only 17 runs as the cost of three wickets. During their whole innings they could only manage six boundaries. Jacques Kallis proved most lethal of the Protease bowlers as he grabbed four wickets. Zimbabwe score their second lowest total in this game.
South Africa attacked them with three dimensional attack. It was Dale Steyn’s swing, Morne Morkel’s bounce amalgamated with perfect use of full ball and experience of Jacques Kallis that scripted the downfall of Zimbabwe.
The first one to go for Zimbabwe was Vusi Sibanda. Morne Morkel was simply proving unplayable for him. Morkel tested him with a fuller delivery after bowling three deliveries short of a length. Sibanda tried to drive but missed it completely and bails were dislodged.
Next wicket was a gift to Morkel. Brendan Taylor tried to cut the ball did not mot moving his feet. Ball kissed the top edge of the bat and landed in safe hands of AB de Villiers. Masakadza looked in high spirits and tried to show off his talent but he could not survive long. He tried to loft Albie Morkel over mid-on only to find Richard Levi on way.
Ervine Craig and Stuart Matiskenyeri showed some responsibility and put on 35 for the 4th wicket Matiskenyeri hit a flat-batted drive to extra cover which was caught by Jacques Kallis. Elton Chigumbura also became wicket of Kallis when he was declared LBW. Graeme Cremer joined Ervin Craig to ensure some respectable total on the scoreboard. Their partnership lasted 17 deliveries before Cremer gloved the Jacques Kallis delivery to wicket keeper. Zimbabwe finished their allotted quota of 20 overs and scored 93 runs after losing eight wickets.
For South Africa total never looked challenging. Protease openers Hashim Amla and Richard levi took Zinbabwean bowlers to taks. Richard Levi was special to watch. He cracked six boundaries in his 43 ball 50. Hashim Amla accompanied him well with almost run a ball 33.
