Best Hidden Hangouts In Orlando
When visiting Orlando, it is easy to get caught up in the hoopla of advertising and tourist schemes. However, if you get the know-how from a native, finding unique, exciting and fun hidden places to hang out will not be difficult at all. Once in Orlando, follow our guide to all that is disguised, only to be found by the bravest travelers.
1. Stigma
Stigma is a one of a kind tattoo parlor and bar located above a dark, creepy staircase. The first time I walked through their hidden doorway, I was shocked to find such a unique place. As I began to drink out of a beer mug which was the size of my head, the bartender told me about everything this place offers; including tattoos and pole dancing classes. The atmosphere is dark and broody, first appearing as if you might have gone off the beaten track. However, with live DJ’s, amazing beers and first rate tattoo artists, you’re sure to be in for a good time.
2. Rok Room
As you are walking down the ever-popular Church Street Station, you may never know about a hidden venue called “Rok Room.” In fact, half of the time, they don’t even put a sign out. Decorated with white pleather and hanging portraits of dead rockers, they offer up strong drinks and quick service. There is a DJ set up on a platform above your head playing funky mixes of rock and hip-hop. Make Rok Room the last stop of your night as there is no cover and they always get packed out around 11 pm.
3. Tanqueray’s
Tanqueray’s is a bar and music lounge located underground, in the heart of Downtown Orlando. Tons of the most talented local musicians go there to play and mingle with the crowd. They serve up very reasonably priced drinks and have two separate rooms. However, the place is intimate and the music beams from every crevice of the building; so escaping the funk is futile. Smoking is allowed indoors; so if you’re a cry baby over fumes, head in the opposite direction. If you are on a tight budget, there is no cover charge.
4. Stardust Lounge Orlando
Stardust Lounge Orlando is another one of Downtown’s underground lounges, more specifically located close to Lake Eola. The décor is super sleek and sexy, providing a dimly lit, burlesque type of feel. There is a lot of booth seating which is set up to be intimate and cozy. What I really love about Stardust is their unique events including ‘Dirty Bingo’ and their Vegas style peep shows. This place is also free to get in. There truly is no other place in Orlando quite as special as Stardust.
